I did the first run I did a few weeks ago, running around the neighborhood, so I didn't pay attention for the TIME I was running instead the distance.
{all distance is in miles}
.25 walk - warm up
.82 jog
.25 walk
1.07 jog
.25 walk
.82 job
.25 walk - cool down
you might be asking how I got .82 and 1.07... well I measured (via google maps) the distance BETWEEN each parallel street and made sure I ran those to get to the other street, so naturally I should count those right!?!?! .07 three times gives me a grand total of .21 that's a lot to be left out! :-P
SO the total (minus the warm up and cool down) is 3.21. My goal: to run that whole thing well in time before the Helping Paws 5K which is only NINE weeks from tomorrow (May 23rd). Once I'm running the whole way, my ultimate goal is to be under 30 minutes. Last year I was about 31 minutes, which I think the kicker was that I trained around Lake Calhoun which is flatter than a Kansas field, and the route ended up being rather hilly. My neighborhood offers me plenty of slope here and there, which I struggled with today. I intend to use that toward my advantage and be better prepared for the race than I was later year. I also was thinking of going to run the route before hand since I know where it is this time around. But we'll see if I'm that ambitious.
Today's HRM reading:
44 minutes
476 calories
Max HR: 191
Avg HR: 167
