With that said, one of my 'new year resolutions' is to run a 5K (again... I think the last one I officially ran was in 2004). I already know I can run it because when running I tend to go about 4 miles... anyway I want to ENTER a race and run with actual other people running. Then once I get that accomplished I hope to move on other things and add distance to my running.
Okay that is that... now for the hard part. I live in Minneapolis, where it is FREEZING cold all winter long. The last time I ran was Thanksgiving morning when I was in Missouri (not as cold there), before that it was probably Sept, early Oct before I'd ran. After many days of research, asking around on forums, shopping, I think I have all the essentials needed to do this thing.
Right now I am sitting here with my under layer of running gear on and ready to pile on my outer layer and head out into this 6 degree weather and try "RUNNING IN THE COLD". I've been rather iffy for a while, had to find the right outer layers:
- Coat: searching for nylon outer layer... finally found one at Target ON SALE! Got it in white so I could be seen while running.... loved coat so much I had to get another one in black (hey they were 50% off) because I can't where white out and about or it would not be white any longer
- Got some ice joggers to put on my feet. I ventured out the other day and almost fell and cracked my head open while just walking around my block. Hopefully these will help me get some traction on these icy/snowy sidewalks. (btw: they just slip over your tennys and wa-la you have spikes/traction)
- Needing something for my face, I have read that running in cold hurts your lungs and it helps to cover your mouth with a scarf or balaclava (sp?) anyway I pronounce it baklava (ya know that sweet danish stuff) anyway also found at Target on sale... so I got that
Hmmm was there anything else I've been in search for? AHHH I don't have anything left so I might as well go. If no one ever hears from me again it's because I'm frozen somewhere in a ditch! Okay I'm going for a run now...
